A team of students competed in the Fuel Up! Innovation Challenge, developing student-led, innovative ideas to improve healthy eating in their schools and communities.

Congratulations to Tony Davenport ’20, Jennifer Rios ’20, Jessica Roman ’20, Mariana Trejo ’20, Aaron Trinidad ’20, and Ashley Willis ’20! They competed against 25 other schools and won $1,000 for their innovative idea for solving food waste at Holy Trinity.

After working with mentors and gaining invaluable guidance from corporate sponsors, participants pitched their solutions to a panel of elite judges in what has been described as a “mini-Shark Tank-style” competition. At stake for each student was the chance to walk away with a $1,000 grant to bring their big idea to life.

40 teams competed and 13 won a prize, including Holy Trinity. Now, the real work begins. The team of students will begin work on implementing their idea, which includes donating excess food to local meal centers and partnering with non-profits that turn food waste into animal feed.
