"Emanique was the leveler – she leveled out all of our classmates’ different personalities. Her laid-back, funny personality and her beautiful spirit kept everyone balanced.”

“Emanique would love for all of Holy Trinity's students to go to college, to not be intimidated about going to a big school away from home, to not be afraid of pursuing a professional degree. We are two girls from the West Side of Chicago and we have been able to do so much. Emanique would want them to know that the sky is the limit.”

"Emma’s path is a testament to setting goals, sacrifice, raising a family, and exploring life beyond the confines of self imposed 'Do Not Cross' barriers. The Dr. Emanique Matthews-Joe Scholarship Fund will bring the same opportunities to a current HT student."

"Emanique's friendship has always inspired me to be a better person. People loved Emma for who she was in her day-to day life, which included school, her family, and her friends. her actions were always louder than her words. She was compassionate and passionate. I hope to honor her by contributing to the Dr. Emanique Matthews-Joe Scholarship because it embodies what she always believed in - education."

“Emma was uniquely inspiring; she had a special way of making ‘mole hills out of mountains.’  She was the friend and counselor who encouraged and inspired one to strive beyond one’s perceived limits in order to tap in to resting potential.  Her legacy is worthy of being remembered and honored through the Dr. Emanique Scholarship.  My hope is that the scholarship inspires young students to achieve more through strong work ethic, unrelenting focus, and positive attitude.”

“Emanique was a friend that you could talk to about anything. She always gave it to you straight.  Her life story is a great example for young women in today’s world.  Education was very important to Emma.  She understood the impact a good education could have in determining what direction your life goes, which is why she devoted her career to improving education. The Dr. Emanique Scholarship Fund is a great way to pass on her message.”

"Emanique was one of the best friends anyone could ever have; from the very first day of Freshman year when I met her to the day that she left here, she remained the sweet, caring, fun girl that kept me laughing and striving for more in life. Emanique never allowed me to simply "settle" for mediocre...she always pushed me to try harder and to want more out of life. My favorite memory of Emma is when she would send me notes in study hall and in passing when we were changing classes. The notes would always have "Telegram" written on the front and would start off by calling me "Sharon the Red Baron". At the end of each note Emma would always sign it from "Chester Cheetah...It Ain't Easy Being Cheesy." I miss her everyday and am very glad a scholarship is being set up in her name. I love you forever and ever Emanique. God Bless you."
