Holy Trinity runs on a
block scheduling system. In the block plan, the school year is
divided into two semesters and the school day is divided into four
instructional blocks
of 81-minutes each. Instruction, which previously
had been taught over the entire school year, is now taught in one
semester. Students have the opportunity to earn
eight academic credits
in one year and will be able to take more electives during
a four-year
course of studies.
Why Implement the Block Schedule?
The block schedule is a national academic development in the United
States in high school education. The implementation of this schedule
is much more than the mere restructuring of the time within a school
day. The schedule is designed to promote
and enhance student learning
and achievement. Fewer daily classes allow for greater focus on
material during class and opportunities for more student-centered and
hands-on learning. Teacher interactions with students become closer
due to extended class periods and students are introduced to college
style scheduling.
